After qualifying in 11th place and losing his fastest lap due to the yellow flag, Luke Pinder put on a spirited display, despite having never driven the car on a wet track. Luke was up to 8th at one point but lost some quick laps because of yellow flags as other cars spun out in the treacherous conditions. All in all, 11th out of almost 30 was a good effort considering the circumstances.

A good start to Race 1 saw Luke well inside of the top 10 after the first few corners. He had climbed as high as 6th before contact with another car deranged the steering which made the car almost undrivable, leaving Luke with an eventual finish in 21st place.

The grid for race 2 was based on finishing positions in race 1, so starting from 21st was always going to be difficult. Exploiting the excellent wet race set up, Luke’s undeniable ability in the wet and a fantastic start meant at the end of the first lap, Luke had passed 10 cars. Another 2 were to be caught in the next couple of laps before Luke witnessed a fellow competitor crash in front of him. With damage to the tyre wall and the competitor’s car, Luke assumed that the race would be red flagged and he soon slowed dramatically to pass the incident and drive around the debris.

Surprisingly, the red flag never appeared and so Luke had to regain his pace, but as the first car to arrive at the incident, the opportunity to move any further up the order had disappeared and the gaps between the following cars had reduced. It then became all about holding position and getting the car to the end. At the end of the second race, 9th was a good result and the car is still in one piece.

Luke Pinder and his team are looking ahead to their next outing at Rockingham Motor Speedway on 29/30 April. By then, the car will be in excellent condition again and the team are looking forward to welcoming a new sponsor on board.
